RW1990.2 Rewritable Blank
Revised RW1990 with wider duplicator compatibility.
A second-generation die with its own write routine. Duplicator firmware treats it as a separate target — open-source copier projects literally carry two functions, write_1990_1() for the original and write_1990_2() for this one — which is why a machine that programs one may refuse the other. Once written it behaves identically to a DS1990A on the door: same 64-bit ROM, same family code 01h, same reader response.
A different write routine — order it to match the machine
Nothing distinguishes RW1990.2 from RW1990 once the key is on the door; the difference lives entirely in how the duplicator talks to it. Some machines list only "RW1990", some list both, some only handle .2 reliably — and a shop that stocks the wrong one gets a blank that simply will not take the code. Check the blank list printed in your copier's manual, then order to match. Shops serving mixed hardware usually keep both on the counter; it is a cheap way to stop losing a sale to a machine that refuses the blank.

Inside the stainless can
A 0.25 mm solid stainless shell, a UV-stable polypropylene grommet isolating lid from base, and the die bonded inside. Lid = data contact, base = ground return.

Blanks differ less in the finished key than in how the copier writes them. Protocol names follow the routines used in mainstream and open-source duplicator firmware — check the blank list in your machine's manual before ordering.

What is the difference between RW1990 and RW1990.2?
